Update (July 14, 2021): <\/em><\/strong>In a high-profile event on Wednesday, July 14, 2021, Prime Minister Imran Khan launched the Letter of Administration & Succession Certificates Initiative for Punjab. Addressing the event, the Prime Minister called it a significant step that aims to facilitate the general public including the overseas Pakistanis.  <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

He further stated that the government was committed to generalise the use of the latest technologies to introduce and promote the concept of e-governance in the country. According to the premier, all these initiatives were intended to further ease and simplify the life of a common citizen. He also said that all urban land records in major cities across the country would be digitised by August.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Letter of Administration and Succession Certificate initiative has already been launched in Islamabad. According to the Federal Minister of Law and Justice Farogh Naseem, the digitised inheritance system has been introduced in the form of a state-of-the-art online platform and is working successfully in the federal capital.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this era of digitization, the concept of e-governance is being significantly promoted among different walks of life to facilitate the citizens of Pakistan. As discussed, to digitize the scope of the inheritance system in the country, Prime Minister Imran Khan has introduced a state-of-the-art online system. It will be used by the legal heirs of a deceased family member to easily acquire the succession certificate. After the implementation of this groundbreaking initiative, the issuance time of succession certificates will be dramatically reduced to only 15 days. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prime Minister Imran Khan said that previously individuals suffered inordinate delays in obtaining succession certificates as there was no proper system in place and the entire process took two to seven years to complete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Establishment of \u2018Succession Facilitation Units\u2019 in Collaboration with NADRA<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Prime Minister of Pakistan has tasked Barrister Farogh Nasim, who is also the Minister for Law, and Justice, to work on the implementation of the \u2018Succession Certificate\u2019 initiative. Barrister Farogh Nasim is collaborating with the National Database Regulatory Authority (NADRA) to work on the formation of \u2018Succession Facilitation Units\u2019 across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Barrister Farogh Nasim, NADRA\u2019s data-backed assistance will be extremely fruitful for the proper implementation of the \u2018Letters of Administration and Succession Certificates’ initiative. He further said that once the process comes into effect, the legal heirs of a property will be able to obtain succession certificates within a matter of 15 days after submitting the application, which previously seemed impossible. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Quick Fact:<\/strong>  As per the Pakistan inheritance laws, which are driven by the Islamic inheritance laws, the legal heirs of the deceased include their parents, children, spouse, and siblings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to NADRA\u2019s official portal, here are the five main steps involved in the application process of a succession certificate or letter of administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Application Initiation:<\/strong> It\u2019s the very first step of the process in which legal heirs provide their and deceased\u2019s identity details as well as the death certificate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Submission of Legal Heirs and Assets Details<\/strong>: This step is pretty self-explanatory. It involves relevant details regarding the assets of the deceased (both movable and immovable).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Verification of the Mentioned Legal Heirs and Provided Details<\/strong>: All legal heirs mentioned in the application are required to visit NADRA\u2019s Registration Center for Biometric Verification for the verification process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Publication of Advertisement in Newspaper:<\/strong> NADRA will then publish a notice to the public in the form of advertisement in the newspaper to make sure there aren\u2019t any objections to the particular applications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Printing and Issuance of the Succession Certificate (The Final Step)<\/strong>: When no objection on the application is raised after the 14 days of the newspaper advertisement, the succession certificate or letter of administration will be printed and issued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
