The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has named a newly built climbing wall in the province after the international mountaineer and Pakistani hero, Muhammad Ali Sadpara. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

First-Ever KP Climbing Wall Named After Muhammad Ali Sadpara<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Muhammad Ali Sadpara is a famous name within the international mountaineering community. The climber was a part of the team that made history by climbing Nanga Parbat, the world’s ninth highest peak aka \u201cKiller Mountain,\u201d in winter. Sadpara also scaled K2, Pakistan\u2019s \u201cSavage Mountain,\u201d the second-highest mountain on Earth, in 2019. Tragically, however, in a daring attempt to conquer K2 in winter, when weather conditions on the mountain are extremely harsh, Sadpara went missing on Feb. 5, at K2 bottleneck, a point close to the summit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A rescue operation was organized for the climber and two other foreign mountaineers. On Feb. 18, after several rescue attempts, the three climbers were officially presumed dead on the mountain that is known for its treacherous and dangerous slopes and Pakistan lost a legend\u2014an icon. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a tribute to the climber and his incomparable legacy, the KP Government named and inaugurated a climbing wall, developed with a vision to promote adventure sports and host national and international competitions, at Qayyum Sports Complex in Peshawar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The KP climbing wall, the first one in the province, has a total height of 52 feet and three different categories of the climb; speed, technical and vertical. The climbing facility has been built under the umbrella of the Prime Minister\u2019s 1000 Playground Facilities project at an estimated cost of Rs. 10 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

GB Cabinet Names Sadpara For Civil Award<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Gilgit Baltistan Cabinet has nominated the name of international mountaineer Muhammad Ali Sadpara for a civil award. The decision was taken on the basis of the achievements of the climber. Among his achievements is ascending four 8000 meters above peaks in a single calendar year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Development of Other Sports Facilities<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Several other sports-related initiatives are also in the pipeline in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The government is developing more facilities like Sadpara Climbing Wall in Hayatabad Sports Complex, Mardan Sports Complex, Khairabad Tourism spot, District Nowshera, and Nowshera Sports Complex, Sports Complex Gunj Football Stadium, Abbottabad, Kohat Sports Complex, Qazi Mohib Sports Complex Banniu, Ratta Kulachi Sports Complex, Dera Ismail Khan. The total expected cost of these projects is around PKR 111 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The gigantic mountain of K2 is known as Savage Mountain because of its notoriously challenging climb. The temperature can drop below minus 65 degrees and the winds blow at a speed of 200 kilometres per hour. The peak was never conquered in winter until Nepales Sherpas attempted the K2 winter summit<\/a> in January 2021 and successfully returned making history. The best time to climb K2 is in summers, during the months of June, July and August, and only professional climbers with extraordinary skills, proper gear and oxygen cylinders should ideally attempt to scale the mountain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
