Whether it’s about many of the recently introduced groundbreaking real estate developments or infrastructure upgrades, there\u2019s no denying the fact that the urban landscape of Lahore is rapidly progressing, moving towards a more sustainable and modern future.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Owing to its great commercial and industrial significance, the population of the city is constantly increasing, the numbers of which have dramatically swelled in recent years. Despite the presence of an advanced Metrobus system<\/a>, Orange Line Train<\/a>, and Ring Road<\/a>, traffic congestion is still a major issue in Lahore. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is one of the key reasons why the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) is working on another mega infrastructure project, based on a signal-free route. The upcoming elevated expressway in Lahore will connect the neighbourhood of Gulberg to Lahore-Islamabad M2 Motorway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Formal Approval for the Construction of the Elevated Expressway in Lahore<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

After carefully considering the structural planning, its major benefits and impact on the surrounding environment, the Chief Minister of Punjab Syed Usman Buzdar has given a green signal for the development of the project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The expressway project is estimated to cost around PKR 61 billion, the development work of which would begin in the first quarter of 2022. This soon-to-be-developed freeway is expected to be used by 73,000 vehicles on a daily basis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Creating a signal-free connection between the Main Boulevard Gulberg<\/a> and M2 Motorway, the proposed route of the elevated expressway in Lahore would have a total length of 10.77 kilometres, divided into three sections, detailed as under:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Total Length:<\/strong> 4.28 kilometres<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Starting Point:<\/strong> Babu Sabu<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ending Point:<\/strong> Multan Road<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stretch-B<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Total Length:<\/strong> 2.13 kilometres<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Starting Point:<\/strong> Multan Road <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ending Point:<\/strong> LOS Road<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stretch-C<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Total Length: <\/strong>4.36 kilometres<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ending Point:<\/strong> Main Boulevard Gulberg<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the LDA\u2019s publicly released project report, the road would connect Main Boulevard, Canal Park, Shadman, Shama Chowk, Chaudhry Colony, Toheed Park Bridge, Gulshan Ravi, Moon Market and Bund Road with the Toll Plaza Babu Sabu at the Lahore-Islamabad Motorway. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Infrastructure Highlights of the Expressway Project<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The upcoming elevated expressway in Lahore is a state-of-the-art infrastructure project, which would boast all necessary features to facilitate the traffic and enhance the route\u2019s aesthetic appeal, such as multiple entry\/exit points, green belts, robust safety measures, and an advanced traffic management system among other facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Projected Outcomes of the Elevated Expressway in Lahore<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Once completed and opened for traffic, the proposed expressway is expected to reduce an overall travel distance of around 82 kilometres between different localities and neighbourhoods linked via its signal-free corridor. Besides reducing traffic congestion, the projected route is also beneficial for the international image of Lahore as a mega-urban hub.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
