Named after Colonel A. A. Munro, the town was founded by Robert Groves Sandeman, who was a British Indian Army Officer, in the nineteenth century. The hill station is located at a height of 1,972 m (6,470 feet).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fort Munro is one of the coldest places in the region, which also experiences snowfall every now and then, and is often dubbed as \u201cMini Murree\u201d by the locals. People who can\u2019t travel to the northern areas of Pakistan, head over to this hill station in southern Punjab. It is visited by a large number of tourists, mostly during the summer season to escape the heat. Activities like camping, hiking and trekking are common among tourists here. In order to get to the Fort Munro hill station, you need to first reach Dera Ghazi Khan. It would hardly take you an hour or so driving by road to reach the location of Fort Munro in your car or by any of the available coach services, which are very affordable. A state-of-the-art bridge is also being constructed at National Highway 70 in this hilly region, the first phase of which has already been opened. Once fully completed and launched, this infrastructure project will provide a safer and more convenient road link for general and cargo traffic to this one of the most famous hill stations in Pakistan. The under-construction structure will also become the world&#8217;s second-largest steel bridge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Tourist-Significance-of-the-Region\">Tourism in Fort Munro<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>With over 6000 ft of elevation, Fort Munro is the highest point of the Koh-e-Suleman mountain range, which is why it is often considered as the \u2018jewel\u2019 of southern Punjab. Keeping in view its significance in the world of Tourism, the incumbent government is doing efforts to make it a fully-fledged tourism spot by adding features like cable car and chairlift system as well as developing new infrastructure projects in the region with the provision of other basic facilities for people visiting the hill station. A cleanliness operation was also carried out in the area recently.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Apart from that, there is a very beautiful natural lake in the area, which is also the source of most of the potable water consumed in the region.
