In order to help people gain more knowledge about wildlife in Sindh and the natural settings of different animal species, the provincial government, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), has renovated and reopened the Sindh Wildlife Museum after a long wait of 29 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Restored and opened to the public after almost three decades, the Sindh Wildlife Museum features hundreds of animal species in their natural settings. This facility will play an important role in helping future generations understand the biodiversity of Sindh and facilitating research for its conservation. More than 107 reptiles, 322 local and migratory bird species, and 82 mammals native to the region have been put on display in the form of specimens on shelves, pictures, and paintings. Some of the most prominent wildlife species showcased in the museum include Sindh Ibexes, jackals, wild sheep, black bears, spotted owls, Asian koels, crocodiles, and different species of snakes.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As per the officials of the Sindh Wildlife Department, the restoration of the museum, which was jointly funded and supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), was costed around PKR 1.6 million. The restoration work of the place almost took a year. Now that it has officially opened, the museum features four rooms as well as two large corridors, including a library with an extensive collection of books and journals on wildlife. It is also an ideal place for the organisation of educational trips.

Quick Fact: <\/strong>Joint efforts have been carried out by the Sindh Wildlife Department (SWD) and World Wildlife Federation (WWF) to protect hundreds of animal species, native to the region, from going extinct. For instance, recently a research-based project was carried out along the coastal belt of Sindh, where the eggs of the very rare olive ridley sea turtle were taken away by the officials for their preservation and safe hatch, to prevent the species from extinction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Constructed in 1914, Freemasons Lodge Building is one of the many remnants of the British Raj in Karachi. For many years, it served as an important place for the high-end meetups and sacred rituals of the Freemasons society in the region. It was often known as \u201cJadoo Ghar,\u201d which means \u201cthe House of Magic\u201d in Urdu by the locals who did not know the purpose of the building. However, later on, after the independence of Pakistan, practicing Freemasonry was banned in the country and the building was taken over by the government of Sindh, where it established its wildlife department in the era of the 1990s. Now, this historical landmark also hosts the newly restored Sindh\u2019s only wildlife museum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
