As per the government officials, in the first phase of the launch, 30 buses will be brought into service. The new bus service in Islamabad will cater to around 48,000 commuters on a daily basis. According to the latest updates on electric buses in Islamabad, the project is jointly funded by Skywell Automobiles, a Chinese auto manufacturer.

Along with many environmental benefits, electric buses are best known for their lower maintenance costs, with a marginal difference of up to 30 percent less than the diesel-powered vehicles. Furthermore, the authorities claim that running this new electric-powered bus service in Islamabad may result in saving 30,000 barrels of fuel, which is roughly around PKR 500 million a year.

Route of Electric Buses in Islamabad

Currently, the Islamabad-Rawalpindi Metro Bus Service runs on only one route. The track of this public transport service in Islamabad is based on two lines, starting from Saddar and running all the way to Pak Secretariat. This state-of-the-art bus service in Islamabad connects the twin cities.

However, there are still many areas and localities around the capital territory that don’t fall in the route of Islamabad Metro Bus. So, keeping in view the needs of the commuters living in these neighbourhoods, the authorities have planned the route of electric bus service in Islamabad.

As per the CDA officials, the route map of electric buses in Islamabad will be based on six routes. We have listed them below for your reference. Take a look!

From Bhara Kahu to Marghazar Zoo (via Dhokri and F-6)

From Rawat to Faisal Mosque

From Tarnol to F-9 Park Near F-7 Markaz

From GT Road (close to the Railway Carriage Factory) to IJ Principal Road metro station

From Nilor Chowk to Koral Chowk

From Lehtrar Chowk to Aabpara

As per the latest updates on electric buses in Islamabad, this transportation project is expected to become operational in the next three to five months. Now that we have learned about the route map of the electric bus service in Islamabad and other key benefits that it will provide to the commuters of the capital metropolis, we’ll take a look at other similar measures taken by the authorities to promote the concept of eco-friendly transportation in Pakistan.

The Concept of Eco-Friendly Transportation in Pakistan

Government have plans to convert the abandoned gas stations to turn into charging stations

Running entirely on electric-powered engines, electric cars have zero carbon emissions, which is considered very important to slow down the progress of climate change and global warming. Keeping in view all these factors, the government of Pakistan has also introduced the National Electric Vehicles (EV) Policy. It is a significant move that’ll shape up the future of electric cars in Pakistan.

As per the Ministry of Climate Change, the launch of the National EV Policy and its implementation will help greatly reduce the emission of greenhouse gases. The ministry further gave a reference to the developed countries where the total contribution of vehicles in environmental pollution is only 20 percent. Here in Pakistan, fuelled vehicles account for around 40 percent of the environmental pollution, which is quite a lot.

The policy is expected to convert around 30 percent of the vehicles on roads (mostly cars and bikes) into electric-powered vehicles till 2030. The all-new electric bus service for public transport in Islamabad will also operate in line with the Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy.

Car Charging Station in Islamabad

Another very significant development in this regard is the launch of an EV charging station in Islamabad by the Pakistan State Oil (PSO).
