Can the trend of vertical developments really take off in Lahore?

The trend of vertical developments in Lahore is, for the present, something utopian. The concept of a studio and other types of apartments doesn’t sit well with Lahoris. Yet the LDA has announced its plan to develop a low-cost apartment project spread over 100 kanals, and LDA is even aiming to modify building bylaws for this purpose. Any guesses as to how successful this project will be? Or where in Lahore they expect to construct these units? Because the location has to have some prominence to attract buyers in the city.

It’s true that the rental real estate prospects in the city have increased in recent years, given the influx of students and people from other cities moving to Lahore for employment. In the coming years, will Lahore present a picture similar to that of the Karachi or Mumbai real estate? Or is this project another example of initiatives launched without proper research, motivated solely to appease the PM’s affinity for housing projects?
