Lahore: Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif recently visited the pilot project of Gulberg III, a key initiative under the Lahore Development Authority (LDA)\u2019s Sustainable Development Model. During the visit, she was briefed by Provincial Housing Minister Bilal Yasin and LDA Director General Tahir Farooq on the project\u2019s goals and progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The integrated development plan for Gulberg III aims to revolutionize the urban landscape by significantly reducing construction and maintenance costs while improving infrastructure. A major focus of the initiative is the development of greenbelts, pedestrian walkways, and cycling tracks to enhance the area\u2019s sustainability and accessibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of the standout features of this project is the groundwater recharge system, where greenbelts are being designed below road level to absorb rainwater. This innovative design will help in the efficient management of rainwater, reducing flooding risks and improving the area\u2019s environmental footprint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To further enhance the area’s energy efficiency, solar-powered streetlights will be installed, promoting renewable energy use. Additionally, the project will include underground utility wires, with the exception of electricity cables, to improve the aesthetic appeal and safety of the streets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Chief Minister emphasized that the Sustainable Development Model will not only transform Gulberg III but also set the stage for similar projects across the city. In the next phase, LDA will expand this model to other areas, including Sabzazar Main Boulevard, Johar Town G-1 Market, Thokar Niaz Baig Entry Point, and Tollinton Market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Maryam Nawaz Sharif also highlighted the ongoing infrastructure upgrades in long-neglected areas. Block B-III has already seen major improvements, including asphalted roads, upgraded drainage systems, and solar lights. The installation of underground cabling for utilities like internet is also underway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
