Lahore: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz has approved the largest road rehabilitation and construction programme in the province\u2019s history, under which 12,000 kilometres of roads will be developed to improve connectivity and ease of transportation across Punjab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chairing a meeting of the Communication and Works (C&W) Department, the chief minister directed authorities to prioritise road projects based on public needs and usage. She also stressed strict enforcement of bye-laws to keep roadsides clear of encroachments and ensure long-term road sustainability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the meeting, CM Maryam Nawaz reviewed the 18.5-kilometre Southern Loop of the Lahore Ring Road and instructed the preparation of a feasibility report for an expressway linking Layyah-Bhakkar Road to the motorway. She also discussed the Khariyan-Rawalpindi Express Road project and called for the uniform installation of tuff tiles in both urban and rural areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Secretary of C&W provided a comprehensive briefing on ongoing road projects across Punjab, stating that construction, expansion, and rehabilitation work is underway on 460 roads. He added that the Quaid-e-Azam Interchange to Wagah Border Road has been completed, while supporting infrastructure such as drainage and boundary walls is still in progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Multan-Vehari dual carriageway project has been approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec), and work on an additional carriageway is currently underway. Updates were also shared on completed roadworks in Murree, the Shakargarh Road under the Kartarpur Corridor Project, and the ongoing construction of the Muridke-Narowal road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz agreed to standardize road widths at 12 feet and emphasized the need to focus on inter-district and inter-village roads in the upcoming financial year to improve regional connectivity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
