Peshawar: In a significant step toward resolving the decades-old land dispute surrounding Regi Model Town, the divisional administration has directed a joint on-ground field survey of the disputed zones. The development came during a high-level meeting chaired by Commissioner Peshawar Division Riaz Khan Mahsud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The dispute, which has remained unresolved for more than 35 years, centers on overlapping jurisdictional and ownership claims between Peshawar and Khyber districts, as well as claims by local tribal communities\u2014most notably the Kukikhel tribe. The conflict has stalled progress on the Regi Model Town housing scheme, a major urban development project for the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the meeting, senior officials including the deputy commissioners of Peshawar and Khyber, the Director General of the Peshawar Development Authority (PDA), tribal elders, and representatives of affected families presented their respective positions on the issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Commissioner Riaz Mahsud instructed the deputy commissioners and the DG PDA to carry out a joint field assessment in coordination with tribal elders and stakeholders. He directed that a comprehensive report be submitted within five days, which will form the basis for a final decision on the matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officials stated that the goal is to pave the way for a permanent resolution that is acceptable to all parties, enabling long-delayed development in the area to resume.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Regi Model Town project, launched in the 1980s by the Peshawar Development Authority, was envisioned as a large-scale housing scheme for the growing population of Peshawar. However, progress on several zones within the project has remained halted due to unresolved land ownership issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
