Lahore: Punjab Housing Minister Bilal Yasin on Sunday visited housing units being constructed under the government\u2019s Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar scheme in Thokar Niaz Baig, where interest-free loans are enabling low-income families to build their own homes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the visit, the minister met with a differently-abled beneficiary who had recently moved into his new home, congratulating him on the milestone. He was accompanied by Director General of the Punjab Housing and Town Planning Agency (PHATA), Sikandar Zeeshan, along with officials from other relevant departments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The minister stated that daily wage earners, labourers, street vendors, and shopkeepers are among those benefiting from the initiative, which provides interest-free loans of PKR 1.5 million to eligible families. More than 7,500 families in the Lahore Division have already received loans through a transparent, merit-based process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Currently, nearly 6,000 housing units are under construction in Lahore as part of the scheme, marking a significant effort to address the housing needs of low-income groups. The minister described the project as the first of its kind in Pakistan\u2019s history to reach this scale while maintaining accessibility and transparency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bilal Yasin added that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz will soon announce additional facilities under the scheme to further ease the burden on working-class families and support home ownership across Punjab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
