Lahore: The Punjab government, in collaboration with Pakistan Railways, has launched an ambitious PKR 2.25 billion Green Corridor Project aimed at transforming a 40-kilometre stretch of railway land between Shahdara and Raiwind into a green, eco-friendly urban belt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project, which spans approximately 700 kanals of railway-adjacent land, is expected to be completed within one year. Its objectives include reducing environmental pollution, enhancing Lahore\u2019s urban landscape, and introducing community-friendly spaces through sustainable infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of the initiative, old and unused railway carriages along the track will be repurposed into cultural and recreational spaces, including libraries and caf\u00e9s \u2014 creating vibrant, accessible hubs for the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project route has been divided into four development segments: Shahdara to Lahore Railway Station, Walton, Walton to Kot Lakhpat, and Raiwind. These segments will be developed concurrently to ensure timely delivery of the corridor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Punjab Housing Department has submitted the PC-1 (Project Concept-1) document to the Planning and Development Department for formal approval, marking a critical administrative milestone in moving the project forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi expressed appreciation for Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz\u2019s continued support, highlighting her commitment to environmentally conscious urban development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis Green Corridor will not only beautify Lahore\u2019s railways but also serve as a model for eco-friendly urban renewal,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officials have noted that the initiative will also provide much-needed green space for Lahore\u2019s growing population while preserving railway land and making it functional for public use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
