Islamabad: Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) has announced a significant oil and gas discovery at its Dhok Sultan-03 well in District Attock, Punjab, marking an important development in the country\u2019s upstream energy sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to a company statement issued on Monday, the well has shown highly encouraging results, producing 1,469 barrels per day (BPD) of oil and 2.56 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd) of gas at a wellhead flowing pressure of 1,147 pounds per square inch gauge (psig) on a 32\/64-inch choke. On a wider 48\/64-inch choke, output rose to 2,113 BPD of oil and 4.13 MMscfd of gas at 813 psig.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Dhok Sultan-03 well is located in the Dhok Sultan Block, where PPL holds a 75% working interest, while Government Holdings Private Limited (GHPL) owns the remaining 25%. The well was spudded on January 18, 2025, and drilled to a depth of 5,815 meters to evaluate the hydrocarbon potential of the Patala and Lockhart formations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
PPL described the results as the second deepest oil discovery in naturally fractured carbonate formations in the Potwar region. The company credited the breakthrough to advanced geological, geophysical, and reservoir engineering analyses, which helped address complex drilling conditions while reducing time and costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The company noted that the discovery will contribute to Pakistan\u2019s domestic energy mix by adding new reserves and reducing reliance on imported fuel. This marks the second successful find in the Dhok Sultan Block.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
