Wazirabad: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz inaugurated the Electric Bus Project in Wazirabad on Wednesday, marking another step in the province\u2019s push toward modern and eco-friendly public transport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the first phase, 15 electric buses will operate on routes from Wazirabad to Gujranwala and Wazirabad to Ali Pur Chatha, supported by three charging units installed at the terminal. The CM also travelled in one of the buses, riding from Gakharmandi to Wazirabad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking at the ceremony, Maryam Nawaz announced that women, students, senior citizens, and differently-abled persons will be able to travel free of charge on these buses. She termed the initiative a move toward affordable, inclusive, and environmentally responsible transport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She further revealed plans to establish a cardiac treatment centre in Gujranwala and confirmed that work is underway to launch the Metro Bus Service in the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Highlighting the government\u2019s broader transport vision, the CM said 1,100 new electric buses will arrive in Punjab by December, followed by another 1,500 next year. The buses will feature free Wi-Fi, mobile charging ports, and enhanced safety measures for women and female students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maryam Nawaz also noted that fares on the new routes have been reduced significantly, with travel from Wazirabad to Gakharmandi cut from PKR 200 to PKR 20.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She said the government was determined to extend modern transport facilities beyond major cities, noting that electric bus projects had already been launched in Mianwali and now in Wazirabad. \u201cI have broken the past tradition of limiting such projects to big cities,\u201d she remarked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Concluding her address, the CM thanked the people of Wazirabad for their warm reception and conveyed greetings from PMLN leader Nawaz Sharif.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
