Lahore: The Punjab government has announced plans to digitize all toll plazas across the province to improve transparency, efficiency, and the overall travel experience for citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, who approved replacing the manual receipt system with a fully digital toll collection mechanism. The initiative, titled \u2018One App, One System\u2019<\/em>, will be introduced at 38 toll plazas in Punjab and will function similarly to the system currently used on national motorways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to officials, the move aims to eliminate manual irregularities, streamline toll collection, and reduce congestion at entry and exit points. The chief minister emphasized that digital integration would enhance transparency in revenue management while offering convenience to commuters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meeting also reviewed progress on several development projects in the province, including those related to transport, construction, and urban beautification. CM Maryam Nawaz approved five major road projects to be developed through public-private partnerships, a move expected to lower costs and accelerate completion timelines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officials further reported that the province has saved PKR 40 billion through the adoption of e-tendering, which has strengthened transparency in procurement processes. The chief minister also directed the installation of solar-powered streetlights along new roads to promote energy efficiency and sustainability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to transport reforms, the meeting discussed initiatives to beautify Lahore, such as the installation of a decorative fountain and a miniature train for children near the railway station park. New roads and pedestrian pathways in the surrounding area were also approved to enhance accessibility and the city\u2019s visual appeal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The provincial government was further briefed on the restoration of flood-affected infrastructure. A total of 54 major bridges, 142 small bridges, and 858 damaged roads have been repaired, while rehabilitation works in Murree, Chakwal, and Sahiwal have been completed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officials said the toll digitization project marks a significant step toward modernizing Punjab\u2019s road network and integrating technology into public infrastructure management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
