Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Monday inaugurated the Flood Victims Rehabilitation Programme and announced a PKR 100 billion package for the rehabilitation of flood-affected families across the province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking at the launch ceremony, the chief minister said that free transport services would be provided to help flood victims access relief funds and facilities in different districts. She emphasized that the entire allocation is reserved exclusively for flood victims and will not be diverted elsewhere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Punjab treasury is a trust of the people and will be spent only on their welfare,\u201d she stated, adding that the provincial government has carried out a transparent and self-funded rescue and relief operation without seeking international aid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maryam Nawaz highlighted that she and her cabinet remained on the ground with flood-affected families during the recent crisis. She said that more than 1,700 teams, comprising personnel from the Pakistan Army, revenue, livestock, and agriculture departments, have been conducting door-to-door surveys to assess damages \u2014 with over 70% of the work already completed. Relief disbursements have begun even before the survey\u2019s completion, she noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The chief minister reported that around 2.5 million people were relocated to safer areas, while 1.2 million individuals received medical treatment through 100 field hospitals. She added that livestock vaccinations were carried out across flood-hit zones in Punjab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maryam Nawaz also underlined that a strict monitoring mechanism has been put in place to prevent corruption in relief distribution. \u201cOnly verified flood-affected individuals will receive financial assistance,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the Punjab government, the programme\u2019s first phase covers 15 districts. Relief camps have been established at 75 locations offering food, shelter, and support, while over 71,000 bank accounts have been opened to facilitate direct disbursement of funds to victims.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
