Islamabad: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on Monday clarified that reports circulating on certain media platforms about a large number of taxpayers being declared \u2018inactive\u2019 are misleading.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the FBR, no taxpayer who has filed an extension application within the prescribed time limit has been removed from the Active Taxpayers List. The Active Taxpayers List for 2025 will be based on returns filed for Tax Year 2024, along with new filers for Tax Year 2025 up to November 15, 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The board emphasized that taxpayers who submitted extension requests through the online system have been granted a 15-day extension automatically, in accordance with the directions of the FBR chairman. Manual filing of returns has been discontinued under recent amendments to the Income Tax Rules. However, individuals who filed manual returns last year are being provided a one-month facilitation period to transition to e-filing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Regional Tax Offices (RTOs) have been directed to assist taxpayers in completing electronic filings and to ensure a smooth transition to the digital system. Taxpayers who miss the deadline can still submit an extension application online by November 15, 2025, providing valid reasons for the delay to the concerned commissioner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The FBR reaffirmed its commitment to supporting taxpayers, ensuring that genuine filers maintain their active status while promoting transparency, compliance, and digitalization of the tax system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
