Lahore: The Punjab government has announced a major initiative to construct 1,000 groundwater recharge wells across Lahore to maintain and replenish the city\u2019s groundwater levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to housing department sources, a pilot groundwater recharge well has already been built, capable of recharging 8,000 gallons per day. Currently, only three such wells are operational in the city. In the initial phase of the project, a total of 15 new recharge wells will be constructed, with modern engineering solutions implemented as per the instructions of the Chief Minister of Punjab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Punjab Housing Authority (PHA) will allocate space for these wells in all city parks, ensuring that public green areas contribute to groundwater restoration. Secretary Housing Noorul Amin Mengal emphasised that special care will be taken to protect existing trees during construction. He also noted that the initiative includes measures to prevent environmental pollution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Groundwater recharge points will also be established across the province under the supervision of WASA Punjab. Secretary Mengal highlighted the importance of water conservation, stating, \u201cWater is a blessing and should be saved from being wasted.
