Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday inaugurated Pakistan\u2019s first-ever Green Policing Unit, marking a step towards environmentally friendly and modern policing in the province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The initiative introduces electric vehicles into police patrolling with the aim of reducing carbon emissions and operational costs. During the inauguration ceremony, the chief minister inspected an electric patrolling vehicle and was briefed on the scope and objectives of the green policing initiative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to officials, the first fleet of electric vehicles will be deployed for patrolling duties in Lahore. The vehicles are equipped with modern policing features, including surveillance cameras, public address systems, police lights and speed detection equipment, and offer an extended driving range on a single charge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The chief minister directed authorities to gradually expand the electric vehicle fleet and implement the green policing model in other districts of Punjab in phases. She said the initiative reflected the provincial government\u2019s commitment to environmental protection, good governance and the modernisation of the Punjab Police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officials said the transition from fuel-powered to electric patrol vehicles is expected to result in significant financial savings and a reduction in environmental impact, particularly by cutting fuel consumption and lowering maintenance costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maryam Nawaz emphasised that green policing would contribute to a cleaner environment while strengthening the operational efficiency of the police force, adding that sustainable initiatives were a key part of the government\u2019s broader reform agenda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
