Karachi: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Monday inaugurated the PKR 6.1 billionKorangi Causeway Bridge, a 1.4-kilometre-long, six-lane bridge built over the Malir River. The bridge connects the Korangi Industrial Area with Karachi\u2019s East and South districts, and is expected to serve nearly five million commuters daily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CM Shah was joined by Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Shah, Labour Minister Saeed Ghani, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, and other officials at the inauguration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking at the ceremony, CM Shah said the bridge will benefit commuters, industrial areas,hospitals, schools, and nearby residential communities. \u201cThis area used to get cut off during rains, dividing the city into two parts. We committed nearly three years ago to building this bridge,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He noted that the bridge is part of a broader initiative to rehabilitate Karachi\u2019s infrastructure. Ancillary construction work, including connecting Shahrah-i-Bhutto with Korangi Road, is still ongoing. The CM said the road is expected to be operational by Eid or shortly after.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the event, CM Shah also announced relief and rehabilitation initiatives for victims of the recent Gul Plaza tragedy. He reaffirmed the PKR 10 million compensation for each deceased person and highlighted financial support for affected shopkeepers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each shopkeeper will receive PKR 500,000 in immediate assistance to cover household expenses such as food, school fees, and utilities. The Sindh government will also compensate for goodsand inventory lost in the fire, with the Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI) assisting in verification and disbursement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
