Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has approved the initiation of a feasibility study for launching an electric tram service in Islamabad as part of its efforts to introduce a modern and environmentally friendly public transport system in the federal capital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The decision was taken during a meeting at the CDA Headquarters, chaired by Chairman CDA and Chief Commissioner Islamabad Muhammad Ali Randhawa. The meeting reviewed the proposed electric tram and e-bus projects, focusing on their technical viability, infrastructure needs, and integration with the city\u2019s existing transport network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to officials, the feasibility study will assess route options, ridership demand, and future transport needs, with particular emphasis on connecting key areas of the city, including Islamabad International Airport. The project will also examine requirements for depots, parking spaces, charging stations, and maintenance facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The electric tram system is planned to operate under a modern Intelligent Transport System (ITS) and will be fully digital and cashless. Chairman Randhawa also directed that the planning process include provisions for acquiring carbon credits to support the project\u2019s environmental objectives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officials said the initiative aims to provide citizens with affordable and efficient transport while helping reduce traffic congestion and environmental pollution in the capital. The feasibility study is expected to be launched at the earliest, after which further decisions will be taken based on its findings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
