Rawalpindi: Punjab Minister for Agriculture, Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani, formally inaugurated the Potohar Agriculture Transformation Plan on Wednesday, aiming to modernize farming practices and enhance productivity in the region. The event was attended by members of the National and Provincial Assemblies, agriculture department officials, and local farmers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The transformation plan, launched under the directive of the Punjab Chief Minister, involves an investment of PKR 7 billion to implement a range of initiatives across the Potohar region. Key components include the installation of 1,700 lift irrigation systems with solar panels at a 70 percent subsidy, construction of 400 mini dams with a PKR 1.75 million subsidy per unit, and land development on 4,500 acres supported with PKR 77,000 per acre subsidies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The plan also focuses on promoting horticulture, with the establishment of over 3,500 acres of new olive orchards, the distribution of 30,000 plants of blackberry, fig, grape, and nectarine at subsidized rates, and 25,000 kilograms of certified peanut seed provided to farmers at concessional prices. Additionally, 15,000 citrus plants and 14,000 avocado, pecan nut, plum, and apple plants are being supplied to encourage diversified crop production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minister Kirmani emphasized that the initiative represents a historic step for agricultural development in Potohar, noting that the schemes are designed to ensure efficient water usage, crop protection, and sustainable farming practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
