Rawalpindi: The cost of the Kutchery Chowk remodelling project has been revised upward from PKR 14 billion to PKR 19 billion, with authorities set to seek formal approval through a revised PC-I in the coming days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officials from the Punjab Highway Department said the increase stems from key additions and adjustments made after construction began. These include the construction of additional pedestrian bridges, expanded road infrastructure, and the shifting of utility services to a dedicated corridor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Land acquisition has also played a major role in pushing up costs. Authorities acquired additional land\u2014at prevailing market rates\u2014from multiple sources to facilitate road widening and improve traffic flow across the junction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minor design changes have been introduced to enhance functionality, particularly to ease congestion. While the overall layout remains intact, certain roads, underpasses, and flyovers have been widened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The revised scope also includes horticulture work and improvements to the drainage system, aimed at making the area more environmentally sustainable and better equipped to handle urban runoff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite the cost escalation, officials say the project is nearing completion, with more than 80% of the work already done. No further changes to the design or scope are currently planned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
