Inter-city collaboration: Lahore, Karachi to sign MoU on water systems<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lahore: An agreement to strengthen cooperation on urban water management and drainage systems is being finalised between authorities in Lahore and Karachi, officials said on Wednesday, as both sides move towards signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The development was announced during a joint press conference addressed by Punjab Minister for Housing Bilal Yasin and Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab in Lahore. The proposed MoU will be signed between the Water and Sanitation Agencies (WASA) of both cities to promote the exchange of technical expertise and improve service delivery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bilal Yasin welcomed the Karachi delegation and said that WASA Punjab has introduced digital monitoring systems for rainwater and drainage management to enhance operational efficiency. He noted that under the provincial government\u2019s broader development plan, significant investments are being made to upgrade drainage infrastructure, including the laying of thousands of kilometres of new pipelines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officials briefed the visiting delegation on various initiatives, including SCADA-based monitoring, helpline services, solarisation, water metering, wastewater treatment plants, and underground water storage systems aimed at improving drainage and groundwater levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meeting was attended by senior officials, including Chairman WASA Punjab Chaudhry Sher Ali and Managing Director WASA Ghaffran Ahmed, along with representatives from the Karachi Water Board and other stakeholders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Murtaza Wahab appreciated the digital reforms and revenue collection systems introduced in Punjab, saying that Karachi could benefit from the technical expertise and operational models adopted in Lahore. He emphasised that greater inter-provincial coordination and knowledge sharing would help address urban challenges more effectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
