Lahore: The design of the Gujranwala Mass Transit System was approved during a high-level meeting chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz in Lahore on Friday, following a detailed briefing on the project\u2019s key features and scope.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the meeting, the chief minister directed authorities to ensure that all areas of Gujranwala are effectively connected to the mass transit network through feeder bus services, aiming to provide an integrated and accessible public transport system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She also approved the inclusion of two tunnel sections to help ease traffic congestion, along with granting a principled nod for 17 to 19 kilometres of underground track.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to officials, the project involves the development of a 31.5-kilometre transit corridor stretching from Ghakhar to Aimanabad. The system will comprise 24 stations, including two underground facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of the project, depots will be established in Garjakh, Chan Da Qila and Gondlanwala to support operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The transit system is expected to cater to up to 2.6 million passengers. Plans also include the installation of solar power systems at all stations and depots, along with the development of a 62-kilometre drainage network and a modern command and control centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CM Maryam said the project is aimed at transforming the city\u2019s transport infrastructure by offering residents a modern, efficient and integrated commuting solution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
