Lahore: Authorities in Lahore have launched a traffic improvement plan for Defence Mor, one of the city\u2019s busiest intersections, aimed at easing persistent congestion through targeted engineering upgrades and traffic management measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lahore Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Syed Abdul Raheem Shirazi conducted multiple site visits and held consultations with relevant departments to develop a long-term solution for traffic bottlenecks at the junction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During meetings with the Traffic Engineering and Planning Agency (TEPA) and the Walton Cantonment Board, proposals were discussed to redesign the intersection to improve traffic flow through infrastructure adjustments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Under the proposed plan, the width of the turning lane at Defence Mor will be increased from 22 feet to 33 feet. Officials say this expansion is expected to significantly enhance the junction\u2019s vehicle-handling capacity, raising it from around 6,000 vehicles per hour to approximately 9,000 vehicles per hour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Authorities estimate that the upgrade will also improve average vehicle speeds at the intersection from the current 15\u201320 kilometres per hour to around 40\u201345 kilometres per hour once implemented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The plan is further expected to reduce long queues at the junction, which currently extend between 400 and 600 metres during peak hours, contributing to frequent delays for commuters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
