Rawalpindi: The Punjab government has assured landowners affected by the Rawalpindi Ring Road project that they will receive compensation for land acquired for the 38.5-kilometre road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The assurance was given by MNA Engineer Qamarul Islam during a meeting with a delegation of affected landowners, who raised concerns over the pending compensation process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The landowners said hundreds of kanals of land belonging to around 200 owners in each of seven old settlements had been acquired for the project, but compensation awards had yet to be issued for some areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Qamarul Islam said all affected landowners would be compensated and that their concerns and relevant details had already been forwarded to the Punjab government and the Rawalpindi commissioner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The landowners have requested the Punjab chief minister and Rawalpindi commissioner to expedite the compensation process and settle their claims before the project’s inauguration on August 14.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, PML-N leader Raja Ilyas Kayani said a delegation of affected landowners would meet the chief secretary in Lahore to discuss the matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
