Islamabad: The National Highway Authority (NHA) has prequalified eight construction firms and joint ventures for two sections of the stalled Hyderabad-Sukkur Motorway (M-6), marking progress towards completing the 306-kilometre motorway project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The prequalification process was launched in December 2025 for Section-IV (Naushahro Feroze-Ranipur), spanning 60.90 kilometres, and Section-V (Ranipur-Sukkur), covering 59.88 kilometres. Financing for both sections has been committed by the Islamic Development Bank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A total of 16 firms and joint ventures applied for the two sections. Following evaluation by NHA\u2019s Procurement and Contracts (P&CA) section, eight applicants were disqualified while eight were cleared for the next stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The prequalified firms include SAJCO-ZKB (JV), China Construction Third Engineering Bureau Group Corporation Limited, SGEG-Umer Jan (JV), China 20 Bureau Group Company Limited, Onur Taahhut Tasimacilik Insaat Ticaret ve Sanayi, and Matracon-ZTZS (JV). The M-6 is being developed in five sections: Hyderabad-Tando Adam, Tando Adam-Nawabshah, Nawabshah-Naushahro Feroze, Naushahro Feroze-Ranipur and Ranipur-Sukkur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Financing has been secured for three sections through international lenders, with the Islamic Development Bank financing Sections IV and V and the OPEC Fund committing financing for Section III. The remaining two sections are planned under the public-private partnership (PPP) model.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The 306-kilometre greenfield M-6 is intended to complete the missing link in Pakistan\u2019s north-south motorway network, providing uninterrupted motorway connectivity between Karachi and Lahore, Islamabad and Peshawar through the existing M-5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The project was previously halted after the NHA terminated the contract of TECMC (Pvt) Ltd in December 2023 after the contractor failed to achieve financial close despite being granted two extensions.
