Rahim Yar Khan: The Mega Sewerage Project (MSP) has failed to resolve residents\u2019 problems, as the sewerage treatment plant has developed faults.<\/p>\n
According to a news source, the MSP was approved in 2005 by the then government to resolve sewerage issues in Rahim Yar Khan. The project was designed by National Engineering Services Pakistan (Nespak) and the local contractors started civil works on the project for the discharge of 22 cusec sewage from the southern part and 8 cusec from the northern part of the city. The development work on the project was stopped after some time, but it was started again later in 2009.<\/p>\n
The project was completed in 2012 but with various objections from the public health department. In October 2012, the first collapse occurred in the sewerage pipeline near Niazi Colony, however, it was restored by the public health department.<\/p>\n
Later in May 2014, a portion of the sewerage line was choked and it has not been restored yet. Due to this reason, the sewerage project is unable to manage sewage from 70 percent of the area of the city.
