It seems like the stakeholders of Lahore\u2019s real estate market have been waiting forever for the development of Lahore Ring Road (LRR)\u2019s southern loop. The wait now looks to be over, as the Planning and Development (P&D) Department has given approval for the construction of the remaining portion of LRR.<\/p>\n

According to a news source, the approval was given at a recent meeting of the P&D Public-Private Partnership Cell officials on Friday, with Punjab Finance Minister Mr Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman in the chair.<\/p>\n

A P&D Department official, who asked not to be named, told Zameen.com that the department would start acquiring land for the project within 2 weeks and the whole project would be completed within 2 years.<\/p>\n

According to the proposed route details published on the P&D Department’s Public-Private Partnership Cell’s website, LRR\u2019s southern loop will begin at Sui Gas Housing Society Phase I and end at Gulshan-e-Ravi. It will bisect Ferozepur Road near Gajju Matah, pass through Raiwind Road near Adda Plot, Maraka near Berger Paint Factory,\u00a0and the M2 Motorway near the Babu Sabu Interchange.<\/p>\n

Reportedly, the project will be completed in five \u2018packages\u2019, three of which have been approved by the P&D Department so far. In the 9.35-kilometre Package I, the northern loop of LRR in Defence Housing Authority (DHA) will be connected to Ferozepur Road. In Package II (13 kilometres), LRR will be extended from Ferozepur Road to Adda Plot on Raiwind Road, and in Package III, an 8-kilometre patch of LRR will be developed from Raiwind Road to Multan Road.<\/p>\n

The P&D Department has initially released Rs 9 billion to start the land acquisition process, and another Rs 12 billion will be required to acquire all of the land, per a news source.<\/p>\n

As we have seen previously with the development of LRR\u2019s northern loop, the road can provide excellent juice to real estate in the areas that it facilitates. Property prices in DHA phases close to the LRR route have increased manifold due to its development. It is expected that with the completion of the southern loop many societies along its route such as Bahria Town, Chinar Bagh, LDA Avenue I, Fazaia Housing Scheme, Lake City, AWT Phase II, Beaconhouse Society, Chinar Courts, Bagh-e-Iram Housing Society and other localities will see a boost in property values.<\/p>\n
