ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Mr Nawaz Sharif has finally inaugurated the Islamabad-Rawalpindi Metro Bus Project today.<\/p>\n
The prime minister said at the inauguration ceremony that the development of the Metro Bus Project would prove to be favourable for the twin cities, adding that his government would also execute similar projects in other cities of the country.<\/p>\n
Reportedly, Punjab Chief Minister Mr Shahbaz Sharif, Interior Minister Mr Chaudhry Nisar and other government bigwigs also attended the ceremony.<\/p>\n
A 23-km signal-free route has been allocated to the Metro Bus Project between Saddar Rawalpindi and Islamabad Secretariat. All 24 stations of the Metro Bus are well-equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. For the convenience of the commuters, ticketing booths, overpasses and escalators have been set up at the stations as well.<\/p>\n
Around Rs 44 billion were spent on the project and reportedly, 60 buses have been deployed on the route and more than 50,000 people will benefit from the service every day.<\/p>\n
The Metro Bus Project was delayed because of certain reasons and the construction work on it troubled the people throughout the development period.
