The government has literally revamped the entire road infrastructure in Lahore and the Federal Capital seems to be next on the list.<\/p>\n<p>Now that the Metro Bus Project is up and running in Islamabad, Prime Minister Mr Nawaz Sharif has announced a special package of Rs 5 billion for the rehabilitation of roads in the city. Reportedly, the announcement was made at the inauguration ceremony of the multi-billion-rupee Islamabad Highway expansion project on Tuesday, June 30, 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Under the project, a 25-kilomtre signal-free corridor will be built from Rawat to Zero Point on Islamabad Highway at a cost of Rs 21.8 billion. According to a news source, six interchanges will be built at the intersections of GT Roads, Koral\/Airport, Khanna, Sohan and Sector I-8. Furthermore, the Faizabad Interchange will also be rehabilitated under the project.<\/p>\n<p>Once completed, the Islamabad Highway will feature four lanes on each side from Airport Chowk to Rawat and Faizabad to Zero Point, while five lanes on each side will be built from Airport Chowk to Faizabad.<\/p>\n<p>Reportedly, the project comprises two phases. The development work in Phase I will be completed within 6 months and the highway will be upgraded from Zero Point to Airport Chowk during this period. In Phase II, the highway will be upgraded from Airport Chowk to Rawat.<\/p>\n<p>The authorities concerned also plan to develop pedestrian bridges, bus bays, walkways and bus shelters in the Federal Capital, per a news source.<\/p>\n<p>The residents of Islamabad should get ready to see road infrastructure changing in their city.
