Islamabad: The enforcement wing of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has demolished 10% of the biggest shantytown (Sector I-11 slum) in the Federal Capital. Reportedly, Rangers personnel and police provided support to the Enforcement Wing in razing the slum.<\/p>\n
CDA Enforcement Wing Director Mr Hamza Shafqat told reporters that 150 illegally built houses were demolished in the first phase and a fleet of bulldozers and heavy machinery was used to undertake the operation.<\/p>\n
The slum-dwellers pelted the CDA officials and security forces with stones, while the police fired tear gas at the protesters in response.<\/p>\n
The news source reported further that the administration had initially asked the slum-dwellers to vacate 230 plots which had been allotted to various people 25 years ago.
