Sialkot: Construction for the Lahore-Sialkot Motorway, a project touted to be a catalyst for socio-economic development in the region, will begin next month.<\/p>\n
Federal Minister for Defence, Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif\u00a0announced this in an open court at the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz house on September 13. According to him, the \u201cgolden export triangle\u201d \u2013 Sialkot, Gujrat, and Gujranwala \u2013 will especially benefit from this motorway.<\/p>\n
The minister also said that two firms have been shortlisted by the National Highway Authority to undertake the project \u2013 the Frontier Works Organisation and a foreign firm.<\/p>\n
Reportedly, the PKR 45 billion project is due to be completed within two years. In the second phase, the motorway will be expanded from Sambrial to Kharian.<\/p>\n
