Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has failed to repair the persisting leakage in the Simly Dam water supply line which is causing considerable wastage of drinkable water.<\/p>\n
According to a news source, the Simly Dam line supplies water to numerous rural areas, including Taimaar, Pind Bagwal, Shahpur, and Bhara Kahu, and residents are distressed about the daily wastage of many gallons of clean water.<\/p>\n
Muhammad Shamood, a resident of Pind Bagwal, told the news source that even though the main supply line is broken at many points, the CDA has paid no heed to repair work.<\/p>\n
Reportedly, CDA documents state that leakages in underground pipelines throughout the city amount to a wastage of 27 million gallons (mgd) per day. A CDA official admitted that the authority had failed to fix even the large leakage points.<\/p>\n
Islamabad requires 110 mgd of water per day, the supply from Simly Dam, Khanpur Dam, and over 200 tube wells amounts to just 70 mgd per day. Additionally, over 250 illegal connections are attached to Simly Dam\u2019s line and this further hampers the supply, the official added.<\/p>\n
However, CDA spokesperson Ramzan Sajid said there is no obvious water shortage in the federal capital. He further stated that efforts to repair Simly Dam\u2019s supply line are currently underway and the authority is taking strict action against illegal connections.<\/p>\n
