Rawalpindi: The Senate Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat recommended that all housing societies operating without the mandatory no-objection certificates (NOCs) from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) in the areas surrounding New Islamabad International Airport be investigated.<\/p>\n
The committee, led by Senator Talha Mehmood, visited the airport site and reviewed the project, per a news source. During the visit, Mehmood inquired whether officials had checked the legal status of the multiple housing societies located close by.<\/p>\n
In response, the CAA officials said that construction of anything within a 7-kilometre radius of the airport is prohibited and none of the housing societies in the area have NOCs from the CAA.<\/p>\n
Mehmood expressed strong dissatisfaction over these violations and instructed officials to set up a committee under headship of Rawalpindi Commissioner Zahid Saeed to identify illegal societies and take immediate action against violators. The committee will also include Islamabad and Attock district administration officials, the news source stated.<\/p>\n
The new airport, being constructed on 3,289 acres, will reportedly be completed by 2017.<\/p>\n
