Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided to devise a new land acquisition policy to facilitate the development of more sectors as the current one consists of problematic loopholes in the built-up property award (compensation against houses) and does not cover the rights of tenants.<\/p>\n
According to a news source, the existing land acquisition policy, applied to sectors C-14, C-15, and C-16, states that one kanal of developed land should be given to landowners in exchange for four kanals of undeveloped land.<\/p>\n
Before the acquisition of land in the C-sectors, the CDA purchased land from locals through awards. However, even after paying large sums of money, the authority was unable to gain possession. Consequently, the authority has been unable to develop a new sector for the last 27 years.<\/p>\n
Reportedly, many CDA officials feel that the existing policy only requires minor amendment in the built-up property award and in the rights of tenants section. A source inside the CDA told reporters that the main problem was mismanagement in relevant departments and not the existing policy.
