Lahore: On Sunday, OLMT\u2019s U-tub girders at Lakshmi Chowk were launched, completing the construction of a 12 km long elevated track from Dera Gujjran to McLeod Road, according to a news report. Punjab Chief Minister\u2019s Adviser and OLMT Steering Committee Chairman Khawaja Ahmad Hassan told reporters while overseeing the launch that the locally manufactured structures each weighed 26 tons, and were 30 metres in length and 5.5 metres in width.<\/p>\n
A total of 670 U-tub girders were launched at a height of 40 metres for construction of the viaduct for the rolling stock. He also added that the laying of the metallic track for the train as well as the electrical and mechanical work on the remaining seven stations along this route would start soon, and the viaduct would be functional for train movement within this month. He also stated that work on the first four stations at Dera Gujjran, Mehmmod Booti, Islam Park, and Salamat Pura was near completion and testing of the track by test runs of the train were already underway.
