Lahore: Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) will build six waste water treatment plants in Lahore soon, according to a news report. The feasibility study of three plants has already been completed and work is being done on the remaining three.<\/p>\n
The plants for which feasibility studies are complete include: a plant at Mehmood Booti with a capacity of 68 Million Gallons per Day (MGD), another plant at Shadbagh with an 88 MGD capacity, and a third one at Shahdara with a capacity of 55 MGD. When complete, these will treat waste water going into river Ravi, which currently goes untreated. The remaining three treatment plants will be constructed at Babu Sahbu, Mohlanwal, and Ferozepur Road.<\/p>\n
According to an estimate in the news report, 7% of waste water comes from industries, 5% from commercial ventures, 72% from urban and suburban areas, while 16% is produced by agriculture.
