Karachi: Recently, the Sindh Government has decided to proceed with letting the relevant local bodies take over the responsibility of collecting property taxes. According to a news report, this decision has been taken by Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah during a meeting with a team from World Bank, led by senior economist Yoonhee Kim at CM house.<\/p>\n

During the meeting, it was highlighted that the current collection of property tax in Sindh amounts to PKR 2 billion, whereas a total of PKR 7.2 billion could be raised. A survey of Karachi was conducted which revealed a figure of 65,000 households eligible to pay property tax, whereas only 35,000 households are presently registered for taxation.
