Islamabad: The Pakistan Environment Protection Agency (Pak-EPA) has ordered two steel mills operating in Sectors I-9 and I-16 to shut down on account of contributing to air pollution, according to a news report. An Environment Protection Order has been imposed on two steel mills by the Pak-EPA under the Pakistan Environment Protection Act 1997. When evaluated, both of these mills were emitting 40% smoke, more than the permissible limit. Pak-EPA has said that the plants have to be closed until they meet the provisions set under the National Environmental Quality Standards.<\/p>\n
