Islamabad: In an attempt to fix water shortage in the federal capital and its twin city Rawalpindi, the Government of Pakistan is likely to approve a project for water conduction from Indus River System in the next few days, according to a news source. In this regard, funds worth PKR 500 million have also been reserved, while the project is estimated to have a total cost of over PKR 75,929 million.<\/p>\n
As part of the Public Sector Development Program 2018-2019, water will be conducted from the Indus River System of Tarbela Dam, with permission of the Government of Sindh. The daily water requirement of the twin cities currently is 200 million gallons.<\/p>\n
Work on the project is expected to start during the fiscal year 2018-2019. For the fiscal year, the federal government will also allocate funds for construction of infrastructure and allied works for Metro Bus Service from Peshawar Morr to Islamabad International Airport, and for compensating and relocating utilities for those affected by land acquisition.<\/p>\n
