Islamabad: The approval of the National Water Policy, accepted unanimously by the government, has been applauded by the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), according to a news report. The policy has been presented by the Council of Common Interests (CCI).<\/p>\n
The ICCI President Sheikh Amir Waheed, Senior Vice President Muhammad Naveed Malik and Vice President Nisar Mirza have labelled this as a good omen for Pakistan as the country\u2019s water woes can now finally be solved with this. They\u2019re of the view that since Pakistan is an agrarian economy, 60 percent of exports rely on the provision of water which contributed to 20 percent of GDP growth. Therefore, it was necessary to have an effective water policy in place.<\/p>\n
Waheed said that the national water policy was inclusive of the development of reservoirs, and would ensure better water management and conservation. This, he said, would help industries, currently consuming 2 percent water which is expected to increase by three times by 2025.
