Rawalpindi: The government of Punjab has allocated PKR 4 billion for the acquisition of land to construct a 48.5 kilometre long ring road, according to a news report. This ring road will pass Channi Sher Alam and Islamabad International Airport.<\/p>\n
The funds under this were proposed under the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA)\u2019s budget proposal for annual development programme. A senior representative has revealed that previously the government wanted to acquire land through the Asian Development Bank but didn\u2019t because the bank had asked the government to do this on its own. The RDA was then required to submit a detailed report on the cost of land acquisition.<\/p>\n
The RDA official has said that 11,000 kanals of land will be acquired for this road as per the survey. Initially, the government had planned to construct an 800 feet road, but reduced the size of the road to 300 feet. A green belt is being added which will serve as the right of way for pedestrians.<\/p>\n
Work on the project is expected to start as soon as the new fiscal year will begin and the RDA official is optimistic that any external variables wouldn\u2019t affect the work progress in any way. The RDA Chief Engineer Ather Hussain Bukhari has confirmed that funding had been allocated for the acquisition of land for the Rawalpindi Ring Road Project, along with the background work to start the project which will connect it to the main G.T.
