Karachi: Urban planner and architect Arif Hasan stated that agricultural farms and fields in Karachi\u2019s outskirts should be protected and developed as a green shield against heatwaves, according to a news report. He said this at a conference titled \u2018Exploring Strategies to Respond to Heatwaves in Karachi\u2019 on Thursday. This was organised by a group of citizens at the Urban Resource Centre\u2019s office.<\/p>\n

Hasan stated that these green areas, especially ones in Malir and Gadap, must be protected so that heat sinks are not created and the economy remains sustainable as well. \u2018By making rural Karachi economically viable, we can make Karachi city cooler\u2019, he emphasised.
