Rawalpindi: Closing of two illegal water hydrants<\/a> has worsened the water crisis in Rawalpindi, according to a news report. While it is believed that illegal water hydrants are the primary causes for the water crisis, the shutting down of these has highlighted the shortcomings in water supply arrangements.<\/p>\n

Water levels in Simly and Khanpur dams, as well as tube wells and Rawal Lake are so low that the residents of the twin cities have to rely on private hydrant operators to meet their water needs. The Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar has taken notice of this situation and given orders under which 48 illegal hydrants have been shut down.<\/p>\n

The Rawalpindi Cantonment Board Qaisar Mehmood has said that action has been taken against operators of illegal water hydrants which have adversely affected underground water levels in the city.
