Lahore: As a measure to control smog in the province, the Environment Protection Agency has decided to shut down the kilns producing bricks in the traditional, old-fashioned way from October 20 onwards, reported a news source. In this regard, the kiln owners have also been issued warnings.<\/p>\n
The EPA has directed the kiln owners to incorporate the use of modern technology for brick production as the traditional kilns produce more smoke. Incorporation of the \u201cZig-Zag system\u201d by the EPA promises to bring down the smoke emitted by these kilns by 70% and it also saves fuel. Upgrading the kiln to the new system costs about PKR 2.5 million per kiln.<\/p>\n
