Rawalpindi: The alignment of the Rawalpindi Ring Road project has been finalised by the district government and the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA), according to a news report. The next step is to send it to the Punjab Government for final approval soon.<\/p>\n
This alignment was finalised at the commissioner\u2019s office during a visit by a delegation of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB). The previous government had sought a loan from the organisation for the construction of a ring road to ease traffic in the city, to which AIIB agreed on the condition that the government would buy its own land and the loan would be used to build roads and bridges of the project.<\/p>\n
According to a senior official from RDA, the alignment of the 55-kilometre road has been approved by the National Engineering Services of Pakistan. It will start from Banth near Channi Sher Alam and end at Thalian on Lahore-Islamabad Motorway M-2. The RRR will have four intersections. While, 11,000 kanals of land will be acquired for the construction of the ring road.<\/p>\n
According to RDA Chairman Arif Abbasi, preparation work on the project has begun, but the final decision will be made once Government of Punjab approves the project.
