Karachi: The city administration has launched the \u2018Adopt a Footpath\u2019 drive, in a continuation of operations to clean the city, according to a news report. This has been initiated a few days after Supreme Court Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar ordered the cleaning up of the port city.<\/p>\n
The Commissioner\u2019s office released a press statement regarding this drive, which said that it will be carried out with the support of various business, commercial, and multinational organisations.<\/p>\n
Karachi Commissioner Iftikhar Shalwani requested private companies to step forward and contribute to the betterment of the city by making the footpaths a safer and cleaner place to walk on. Shalwani also revealed that the Chamber of Commerce and the Association of Builders and Developers (ABAD) have shown interest in the project.<\/p>\n
Work on the footpaths would involve laying bricks, maintenance, tree plantation, provision and cleaning of garbage bins, and the installation of benches, bus stops, and lights. No barriers or fences would be allowed on these footpaths to give the public complete access to them.<\/p>\n
The commissioner said that an integrated approach would be used for this drive, and they will work with the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), district municipal corporations (DMCs), and the various cantonment boards.
