Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) is planning to resolve the city\u2019s parking issues by constructing 10 parking plazas, along with a 25-storey tower, according to a new source. These projects would be undertaken on a public-private partnership basis as a financial model.<\/p>\n
Officials of the RDA revealed that land had already been identified for constructing the plazas, with more land to be confirmed in a week or two. Currently, the parking plazas have been planned in Raja Bazaar, Liaquat Road, and Rehmanabad. The piece of land in Raja Bazaar belongs to the Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation (RMC), and will have to be bought by the RDA before proceeding with the project.<\/p>\n
RDA Chairman Arif Abbassi formed a five-member committee for this project. This committee comprises RDA directors engineering, architecture, finance, state land, and metropolitan and traffic engineering. This committee has been tasked with identifying locations for the other seven parking plazas.<\/p>\n
The 25-storey tower being planned spans over 13 kanals on Murree Road adjacent to Rawalpindi Municipal Library and the historical Liaquat Bagh. This tower would include offices of the RDA and the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA).
